DMG MORI's AMB 2026 presentation in Stuttgart centred on connecting machining, inspection and automation across a production process rather than treating each machine as an isolated asset.

The manufacturer announced twenty machines across more than 2,100 square metres, with most exhibited in an automated setting from September 15 to 19. The range included new cutting cycles, grinding integration, adaptive measurement and autonomous workpiece handling. For CNC manufacturers, the point is practical: a technically capable machine delivers limited value if programming, transfer and quality feedback remain disconnected.

## Adding processes to one machine

A major element of DMG MORI's programme was integrated grinding on equipment using HEIDENHAIN controls. Combining turning, milling and grinding in a single set-up can reduce re-clamping and some intermediate transport, although the process is still subject to grinding-wheel maintenance, thermal behaviour and part-cleanliness requirements.

DMG MORI also presented the Gear Package ALL IN 2.0, described as eight integrated gear-cutting cycles, and Interpolation Turning 2.0 for producing complex contours through coordinated axis movement.

The commercial appeal of software-defined processes is the possibility of adding manufacturing steps without purchasing a separate dedicated machine. But a shop must ask which machine models, axes, control options and tools are supported. An available cycle is not the same thing as a qualified production process. Engineers still have to prove cutting strategy, surface integrity, inspection and throughput on the relevant component material, particularly where a previously separate grinding or gear-cutting step was used as a quality gate.

## Closing the measurement loop

DMG MORI showed a manufacturing cell combining MATRIS WPH handling with a Renishaw Equator measurement system. The concept uses measurement results to feed corrections back to machining.

Closed-loop control can shorten the delay between observing process drift and acting on it, but its effectiveness depends on reliable datums, correct measurement programs and rules governing which errors should trigger offsets. A bad measurement or a poorly designed compensation rule can propagate mistakes across subsequent parts rather than correcting them.

Another demonstration involved AI-assisted chip removal on a third-generation NTX 2500. According to the manufacturer, algorithms identify chip accumulation locations and guide flushing nozzles. This targets a familiar obstacle to unmanned machining: material removal can be complete while chips still prevent part handling, damage the process or interrupt production. It remains a vendor demonstration rather than evidence that every alloy and chip form will be controlled reliably. A purchaser should assess representative materials, coolant conditions and maintenance routines.

## Automation is a system-design decision

DMG MORI's exhibits also included pallet automation, robot handling and a driverless transport arrangement associated with the DMV 160 machining centre. This broadens the decision beyond a single robot purchase. Production managers must define how parts are identified, how programs and offsets follow each pallet, where inspection occurs and who can recover a halted cell. Data integration between CAM, NC programs, the machine and work planning is relevant only if it reduces errors and operator interventions in a measurable way.

The AMB presentation offers a useful map of technologies converging around CNC production: multi-process cutting, feedback metrology, adaptive control and flexible material handling. Its claims should be read as descriptions of DMG MORI's product ecosystem, not independent proof of a specific cycle-time or scrap reduction. Before investing, shops need a documented baseline and application trial covering the complete process chain. Source: DMG MORI's September 15, 2026 AMB technology announcement.
